When the Bank commenced its programme of establishing Permanent Branches, it was a requirement of Birmingham City Council that "the intention of persons intending to build is particularly directed to the BYE-LAWS FOR REGULATING THE CONSTRUCTION OF NEW STREETS AND NEW BUILDINGS and the penalties thereby provided in case of the contravention of such Bye Laws, which penalties will be strictly enforced".

 

In enforcing the provisions of these Bye Laws, the Council required that a NOTICE OF INTENTION TO ERECT BUILDINGS be submitted. This Notice required an applicant to complete a form consisting of 12 questions following a statement that "It is my intention to erect certain buildings in this City, and that the following particulars relate thereto"

relating to the Bank's first building application.

and Appurtenances of the properties immediately adjoining, the width and level of the street, the

level of the lowest floor of the intended Building, and of the Yard or Ground belonging thereto.

 

A Report ('PLANS FOR NEW BUILDINGS' - see below), that was attached to the NOTICE OF INTENTION TO ERECT BUILDINGS and the Architect's plans, was circulated to various Departments of the Corporation for their input and comments prior to the Application being submitted to the Plans Sub-Committee.
