CONTACT: Christmas 1968
During the 1968 cricket season the results were almost as disappointing as the weather. The Bank
won three matches, lost six and had three rained off, finishing in eleventh place out of thirteen.
In the six-a-side competition
we received a bye in the first round and were beaten by the eventual winners, Housing Department, in the second round. Housing batted
first and scored 83-2 and we replied with 56 all out.
This season the Bank entered a new competition, the H J Moss Knock-out
Cup. Twenty Trustee Savings Banks entered and they were split into four groups of five teams. Although we managed to reach the semi-final
we were beaten by the eventual winners (once again), East Anglia TSB at Norwich. To reach the semi-final we met and defeated Walsall
TSB and North Staffs TSB.
Ray Lovell has won the batting prize this year scoring 157 runs (avge 31.4) finishing fifth in the
overall league list. John Ordish won the bowling prize, taking 4 wickets for 25 (avge 6.25).
The F W Parsonage Prize for the
most promising youngster has been awarded to Clive Brown who only started playing for the team mid-way through the season, but he
impressed us with his batting, bowling and fielding.
The Frank Kirtland Cup has been awarded to John Eyre for his services to
the Club, particularly as Secretary, a position he has held for ten years.
