CONTACT: Autumn 1969
The 1969 Season proved to be very successful. We were able to play all but two of our twelve matches,
winning eight and losing only two. The only two teams to beat us were MEB Engineers and Public Works Department, the latter winning
the Championship and having us runners-up with Housing Department.
In the six-a-side competition, we were defeated in the second
round by Housing Department. After beating Town Clerk's Department, Housing Department went on to win the final.
In the H J Moss
KO Competition we beat Walsall TSB and Chester, Wrexham and North Wales TSB but were defeated by Coventry TSB in a very close match
in the regional final. The scores were Coventry 89-9, Bank 87. In this match Ron Moll had bowling figures of 8 wickets for 12 runs.
The
batting prize was won by Philip Willetts who scored 222 runs at an average of 44.4, followed by Keith Hicks and Clive Mace.
The
bowling prize has been won by Ron Moll. In all matches he captured 23 wickets for 158 runs at an average of 6.87, followed by Philip
Willetts and Alf Young.
The most encouraging feature of this season was the way the younger members fitted into the team which
was very well captained by Ray Lovell. Keith Hicks, Clive Brown, John Mace and Michael Reed, all played a vital part in our successful
run. It is the younger members who will form the nucleus of the team in the future, so anyone who would like to join us next season
should contact me at Bearwood Branch.
