With only a few weeks to the beginning of the 1964 season, once again the Club is looking forward to an enjoyable and successful year and an improvement on the performance of last season when the team finished 6th in the league.

The main event during the close season was the annual Golf and Cricket Club Dinner which was once again most enjoyable, with the respective prizes being awarded by Mrs Sutherland and Mrs Raftery. Our appreciation is extended to Tony Green for organising the event.

The prizes for last season were awarded as follows:-

F W PARSONAGE PRIZE - Ray Lovell

FRANK KIRTLAND CUP - Horace Williams

BATTING PRIZE - John Ordish

BOWLING PRIZE - Les Bellmore

A cordial invitation is extended to anyone wishing to join the Club and to play during the coming season. It is hoped that net practice can be arranged for the weeks prior to the start of the season.

The date of the AGM will be announced later.

The Cricket Club have had their best start to a season since the Club was reformed after the War (no, not 1914-18) winning four out of the first six matches with two rained off.

Ray Lovell has carried on where he left off last season. In four innings he has scored 147 runs and has been the mainstay of the batting strength with able support from the recognised "batsmen" in the side.

This season it has been a pleasure to welcome "new blood" into the team in the person of Ron Moll, who has bowled exceptionally well and has taken 14 wickets for 144 runs to date. Steve Yarnall, John Roberts and Malcolm Kendall have all performed creditably when called upon.

The fielding has been much improved and this is no small measure due to the increased bowling strength.

At present the team are looking forward to a successful season - and support from the Staff can help them to achieve this aim.

This summer has been one of the finest for many years and acted as an inspiration to the team, who finished runners up in the Evening League, only one point behind the Champions, Housing Management. At one time it was thought that the Bank were joint champions. Unfortunately our joy was short lived as Housing Management discovered a lost point and the Bank were "pipped at the post".

The Club honours this season go to Maurice Eley who finished top of the batting averages, scoring 121 runs for an average of 30.2, followed by Ron Moll, 116 runs, average 19.3 and Ray Lovell, 153 runs for an average of 19.1. Further congratulations to Les Bellmore for finishing top of the bowling averages taking 21 wickets for 81 runs, an average of 3.84 rpw, with Maurice Eley second, taking 6 wkts. for 42 runs, average 7.0 rpw followed by Ron Moll with 18 wkts. for 176 runs, average 9.8 rpw.

The F W Parsonage prize is to be awarded to Ron Moll for his performances as previously mentioned, and as the outstanding new member of the team.

The final League Table is not yet available, but it will be circularised when received.
