CONTACT: Summer 1962
The Cricket Club has found as much sunshine and warmth from the opening games as the early holiday
season makers this year; only one match has been won out of a possible four. However, it is rumoured that another win may have been
registered if the umpire had been able to signal "wides", personally I think it was "sour grapes".
Individual members of the
team have scored a number of runs, but unfortunately never in the same match, nevertheless hope springs eternal. The bowlers have
not been able to dominate the scene in any match yet, possibly because the opposing teams have not been set too difficult a total
for a win.
The remaining hope for "honours" this season rests with the six-a-side tournament, where the team are in the second
round, with a good chance of progressing to the semi-final.

CONTACT: Autumn 1962
The summer of
1962 has been disappointing both for weather and our cricket results. Only two games in the Evening League were won this season, the
second being a convincing victory over one of the stronger teams in the championship - namely Teachers - unfortunately this did not
act as a confidence "booster".
The failure this year appears to stem from the fact that the batsmen were not able to lay the
foundation of a high score allowing the bowlers a chance to attack the opposing batsmen more. This season the Bank scored only 502
runs as opposed to 922 runs last year.
The six-a-side tournament was however our "little ray of sunshine", with the team progressing
to the semi-final, being defeated by the eventual winners of the trophy, MEB Engineers.
Keith Haslam and John Eyre are to be
congratulated on finishing top of the bowling and batting averages respectively. Keith Haslam taking 5 wickets for 30 runs for an
average of 6 rpw, followed by Neville Alsop 10 for 128 (average 12.8 rpw), John Eyre scoring 83 runs for an average of 16.6, with
Maurice Eley second scoring 38 for an average of 12.56.
The appreciation of the members of the Club is due to Mrs Kirtland and
Mrs Peers for providing a trophy to be won annually by one of the playing members - the Frank Kirtland Cricket Cup, in memory of Frank
Kirtland who always took a keen and active interest in cricket in general and the Bank team in particular.
The thanks of the
Club are due to the scorers for this season, to Miss Cowley and Head Office secretarial staff for their help with the administrative
work, to the President and Vice-Presidents for their support and to the Staff Association for financial aid.

CONTACT: Christmas 1962
Writing about Cricket seems hardly the thing to do with a few inches of snow on the ground, however, it suddenly makes the
winter shorter. I trust that the members of the Club have followed the usual winter training routine and will be 'ready for the fray'
from May until August - both on the field and in the Clubhouse - although the season is short it is most enjoyable.
The final
League position was disappointing last year but I am confident that the new season will find the Bank challenging for honours.
The
thanks of the Club are due to the Golfing Society for arranging the Annual Dinner. It was an enjoyable and successful evening with
both sections presenting their prizes. Mr Raftery (Chairman of the Cricket Club) introduced Mr Parsonage who presented the Club prizes
- Batting, Mr Green - Bowling, Mr Alsop, and his own prize to Mr Bunten.
The date for the Annual General Meeting has not been
arranged and will be notified in due course.
