The annual dinner of the Bank Golfing Society was held at the White Horse Hotel, Congreve Street, on Saturday, 20th February 1960.

This function has greatly increased in popularity since its inception and a record number attended. Among those present were the President and his wife, Mr & Mrs H J Sutherland, Mr & Mrs F W Parsonage and Mr & Mrs A N Ling. The President stated that he hoped to be able to take part in some of the matches during the forthcoming season.

Apologies were announced by the Secretary, Mr J A Duff.

Mr H A Turner proposed the toast to the visitors according them a very hearty welcome, Mr F W Parsonage responded in his usual humorous manner.

The Secretary presented his report for 1959.

In accordance with a now established custom, the officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:

The Captain then presented the President’s Cup to Mr H G Payne, stating that it was a well deserved honour in view of Mr Payne’s very successful season. Mr Payne suitably responded, particularly thanking Mr Duff for having disposed of Mr Turner on his way to the final.

Mention must be made of the Ladies from whom there is strong support, all the Ladies are welcome and this section of the Society is increasing in strength, this year the Ladies are entering the “Knock-out” competition for the President’s Cup for the first time - Particulars of which will shortly be circulated to all branches.

Ending on a personal note, I must thank Mr Powell, the Editor of this excellent staff magazine, for publishing the reports of the Society.

CONTACT: Spring 1962

The Golfing Society's Annual Dinner, which is now officially and substantially supported by the Cricket Club,  was held this year at the Kings Norton Golf Club, on the 27th February. This proved an excellent venue, and the function was an unqualified success. Members and guests, who included the Ladies, totalled 41 in all. We welcomed our President and his wife (Mr and Mrs H J Sutherland) and also the present and past Chairman of the Cricket Club (Mr and Mrs J W Raftery and Mr and Mrs F W Parsonage).

After a pleasant meal and the correct choice of drinks, we were in an appreciative mood for the business of the evening. The AGM of the Golfing Society was conducted quickly and smoothly by the Captain, Mr W K Robottom. A short resume of the season's activities was given by the Secretary, Mr J Duff, and afterwards Mr R N Wilcox, winner of the Knock-out Competition, was presented with the President's Cup by Mrs Sutherland. Mention was made of the successful day's outing to the Beau Desert Golf Club for the playing of the Annual Stroke Competition which was won by Mr J Duff. Other prize-winners were Messrs Payne and Robottom. Then followed the election of Officers for this year. The President remains the same, the new Captain is Mr H A Turner and the new Secretary is Mr A Green (Selly Oak Branch).

Thanks were given to the retiring officers, particularly to Mr J Duff, who has held the onerous office of Secretary for several seasons.

Then followed the business of the Cricket Club, which I understand is reported in the cricket Club notes.

May I appeal to all members to support the functions of the Society this year to the full, and a special welcome is extended to any new members.

CONTACT: Summer 1962

The present season has opened with the sweet scent of success. Wins were recorded against the Telephone Service, Transport Department and, most pleasingly, against Lloyds Bank. The last success by 5 matches to 1, will help redress some previous bad defeats. The Public Health beating by 4½ games to 1½ games brought us down to earth. A most pleasant feature of the game has been the strong support given by the Ladies of the Society. They have been most helpful to the Secretary and the Captain in their efforts to raise the teams for this, the most ambitious season ever attempted.

I hope that all competitors will endeavour to play their matches in the President's Cup as soon as possible. Please use the light evenings to bring this competition to a successful conclusion. Please notify the Secretary of the results immediately.

A date to remember: The Annual Medal round at Hawkestone Park on Sunday the 16th September. This is one of the showplaces of Midland Golf and we look forward to seeing all Members and friends.

CONTACT: Autumn 1962

The sweet scent of success that I reported in the last issue, has developed during the season into a powerful pungent perfume. Wins were recorded in the league against the Education, Water and Town Clerks Departments. With only a loss against Architects and Public Works Department, the Bank must surely stand high in the new League. The Telephone Service avenged their previous defeat after a close struggle in a friendly match at Kings Norton.

Our thanks must be given to Tony Green, the new Secretary, who has coped well with all the difficulties imposed by the extended programme.

The Knock-out competition for the Presidents Cup has produced some very tight games. The final will be contested between Mr G Payne and myself, but there is every indication that in the future youth must be served.

The season closed with the Annual Medal round, held this year at Hawkestone Park, more of that anon. The continued success of the Society depends ultimately upon the enthusiasm of the members. Will all golfers please contact the Secretary and give their support.
