Head Office (Broad Street) - Assembly Room
Image by Albert Williams - who has included himself on the right of the photograph. This shows the Head Office Assembly Room in its
normal daily use as the staff canteen. The canteen staff are taking a late morning break prior to the first of the three lunch sittings
(11:45 to 12:30; 12:30 to 13:15; 13:15 to 14:00). The cook, Mrs Watson (sitting nearest the window) produced an excellent rhubarb
crumble.
The servery in the left background suggests that the photograph was taken in the late 1970s - prior to that period,
diners collected their main courses directly from the kitchen, which was to the left through the double doors. On the wall each side
of the double doors are the Honour Boards, which recorded the names of successful candidates in the examinations of the Institute
of Bankers and the Savings Banks Institute.
