World War II Memorial Plaque

This plaque was originally sited in the Assembly Room of the Bank's Broad Street Head Office. It was unveiled by the Bank's Chairman (Councillor G P Achurch, MBE) and dedicated by the Rector of Birmingham (The Reverend Bryan S W Green, BD) at a ceremony held on Saturday, March 31st 1951. The plaque is now held by the Savings Banks Museum at Ruthwell in Scotland, where the photograph was taken.


The three members of staff commemorated are:

Robert Walter Bird - Sergeant, RAF Volunteer Reserve, 78 Squadron (September 30th 1941, aged 19)

Dennis Boraston - Serjeant, Royal Army Ordanance Corps (August 21st 1946, aged 37)

George Douglas Savage - Sergeant, RAF Volunteer Reserve, 150 Squadron (February 11th 1942, aged 22)
